By nature, I am a cultural observer. I analyze trends to see what makes sense and what doesn't and what is simply a fad. Certain facts are consistent with human nature, the pareto distribution, the 2nd law of thermodynamics, and Drucker's theory of power.
Culture does not always move in one direction, but is like a giant pendulum that swings back and forth, the farther in one direction, it returns as far back in the other direction. I have this memory of one of my college professors talking about how during the French revolution, the pendulum swung back in the opposite direction and caused Robespierre and his compatriots to be guillotined.
The American left, who have dominated American culture for the last 50 years, have brought us farther and farther to the edge, what was once abhorrent is now commonplace. It is not unusual to watch awards shows on television with the attendees spewing off foul words, exposing most of themselves, and now committing lude, homosexual acts, or 'pushing the envelope' as they like to call it. I recently watched the country music awards, one recipient thanked her parents, God, and some others, I was stunned.
Something miraculous happened towards the end of last year. Did you feel it? I don't know the exact moment when it occurred, or why it occurred, but the pendulum traveled to the end of its journey and started back in the other direction. Was it Sarah Palin? Was it Carrie Prejean? Was it the Jonas Brothers, or Jordan Sparks? Was it the sheer dominance of the left?
For some reason the culture is now headed back in the other direction, and Sarah Palin is leading the charge, in culture and in politics. Is she responsible? It doesn't really matter actually, as long as it is happening and we have great leaders, like Sarah Palin, to trailblaze.
